What’s the General Data Protection Regulation about?

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) takes effect on May 25, 2018, and creates consistent data protection rules across Europe. It applies to companies (regardless of where they are based) who process personal data about individuals in the EU. – Facebook

I’m in no means an expert on this file but want to make sure you know where to learn more about the general data protection regulation.

What to do?

Facebook has everything set up for you to contact your developer or agency so that they can set up new codes on your website and deal with your Facebook pixel. Grab it here.

But I’m not in Europe, why should I care?

First thing is that even if you don’t live in Europe, but you do business with European markets, you have to comply with the new regulation and set up cookie consent on your website, especially if you’ve been using the Facebook pixel to collect information for retargeting advertising purposes on Facebook and Instagram.

Businesses who advertise with the Facebook companies can continue to use Facebook platforms and solutions in the same way they do today. Each company is responsible for ensuring their own compliance with the GDPR, just as they are responsible for compliance with the laws that apply to them today. – Facebook
