Ever hear someone say “I don’t like social media.”?
It’s so frustrating to hear people say things like this. Social media is a great way for small businesses and individuals alike to market themselves, reach their target audience, and connect with others who care about the same interests as you do!
What are some reasons why social media isn’t only bad? First of all, it provides an easy platform that anyone can use at any time from anywhere in order to connect with other users from around the world. You don’t have to be techy or spend hours setting up your profile; just sign-up on whatever platform works best for you (Facebook Messenger, Instagram, Twitter, etc.) then start sending out messages or pictures letting everyone know what’s going on in your life/business – meaning building your brand and sharing your beautiful message!
I want to add this: social media is an amplified and concentrated reflection of our world – the good and the sad. At the end of the day, in life and online, you are the one who chose to hang out with people who help you grow or people who bring you down. You are the one who chose to listen to the news 10 times a day or limit yourself to what you need to know to make that world a better world.
You may think I am all about unicorns and rosy thoughts – yes, I am! This is my life and this is what got me out of darker times in my life. Now, did I witness awful things on social media like people’s heads cut off, and other awful things? Yes, I did. I even know many people who suffer every day from living their life online. And I still believe that this is more than the fault of social media.
Again this is not about social media. It’s about who we are, and we want to become, and the choices we make. That said, I would love to hear from you. What’s your take on this?

Saying Something is Bad Might Be A Sign Of Resistance
Saying “social media is bad” really just means you are resisting the idea of something new or of trying again to use it in the flow with who you are. Many people have never heard of social media for business or don’t understand how it works so they find themselves feeling confused and overwhelmed by all the options out there – this frustration results in a negative opinion about using these platforms to connect with others.
What if social media could be a game-changer for your mission on earth! Instead, would you be open to taking some time and learning how to use one platform (don’t spread yourself too thin) then work on getting your profile set up before diving into connecting with other users? After that, maintain an ongoing conversation where you share different things from around the web; promote your website/business; ask questions etc. We deserve better social media for the sake of all the collective mission women leaders have in this world.
When You Resist Something, You Repel It
Are you resisting social media? Listen to your body, you’re probably feeling a little sting somewhere if you do. It’s all good and totally okay. It’s like resisting anything else in life – stop and listen inside – where does this resistance come from? Maybe from a bad experience, you had on Instagram when someone challenged you about what you were saying. Or maybe – you are freakin’ scared to be discovered, heard, seen, and criticized (yes, you will be and this is a good sign!).
The more you resist it, especially if you have an online presence, the more you send a contradictory message. If your marketing aims at attracting clients using social media, but you don’t feel social media can be true to your values, then it won’t work. It will require first to deeply feel that your ideal client is really on social media and that you can play the social media game in a way that feels good to you.
So don’t be afraid of renewing your relationship with social media (I can help you with this as part of my program The Visibility Accelerator!) It takes some time, grace and patience but if you stick with it then everything should fall into place eventually (building your omnipresence online is about creating a showroom where people who find you for the first time understand where you’re coming from with your message and how you can help them transform their life or partner with them in their business.
To Attract Clients Online, You Have to Change Your Perspective
Many business owners and entrepreneurs think social media is a waste of time or that it doesn’t apply to them. They see them as a time sucker, a money machine, and a superficial world. Sometimes, I almost feel bad when my friends tell me: did you see what I posted yesterday on Facebook?
Most of the time I didn’t as I curate my feed only towards people who could be interested in my mission as a women leader to get more women coaches and consultants to fall in love with their fear of becoming VISIBLE by sharing their voice, ideas, stories, beliefs with leadership and expertise online.
So yes, social media could be a waste of time, totally! But social media can also be used just like any other medium to promote your brand – you might need to do some research on what platform makes the most sense for connecting with your target audience but once you find out which one(s) those are then its smooth sailing from there! You are here for the long game, no matter the algorithm.
You have to change your perspective in order to attract more clients that come from your phone; if you don’t believe using social media will benefit your business then it won’t – whatever we do online to build our brand has to come from the heart – not from a place of I “have to”?
Do You Believe That Your Message Can Help People
You have your own unique message/story to tell; you can share things that other people may be struggling with or find useful. You never know who’s watching so make the most of this great opportunity by sharing what matters! The thing with social media is that you may feel ignored for a while, and that’s okay. Some of the most successful entrepreneurs are the first ones to tell you that they went incognito for years before being discovered.
Social Media Is One More Tool You Can Chose To Use Or Ignore
So next time someone says “social media is bad” try not rolling your eyes at them or getting annoyed by their comment because they’re just expressing how overwhelmed they feel about trying something new that seems hard for them or they just go with what most people say in public (even if they spend hours scrolling their phones). The best thing we can do as others sharing this platform with one another is to support each other through our struggles together we can all make great.
